ANZ Rewards Credit Card Review

Reviewed on 19 October 2020 by Maja – credit card expert & co-founder of Compare the Card

With 50,000 bonus Reward Points when you spend $1,000 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months from card approval, the ANZ Rewards is a great way to earn more ANZ Reward Points on your everyday spend. It also comes with a generous 55-day interest free period on purchases.

What do we love about this card?

You can earn 1 Reward Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to and including $1,000 per statement period, then 0.5 Reward Points per $1 of eligible purchases above $2,000. With ANZ Rewards, you have a great range of redemption options to choose from, including entertainment, gift cards, shopping vouchers, merchandise and much more.

ANZ Rewards cardholders can also earn additional bonus points when shopping online via the ANZ Bonus Points Mall, with some retailers offering over 10 Bonus Reward Points per dollar spent. You just need to remember to click via the ANZ Bonus Points Mall link before you start shopping.

How much is 50,000 Reward Points worth?

An ANZ Reward Point is worth approximately 0.45 cents (based on the redemption of a $100 digital gift card at a retailer like Woolworths, Coles, David Jones or Myer), meaning you’ll need approximately 222 Reward Points for each dollar you want to redeem. You’ll generally find that gift cards are the best value redemptions for your Reward Points, and it’s usually worth hunting around for a sale at a retailer from which you can get a gift card, rather than buying it outright from the online store. Similarly, cashbacks tend to net you a lower dollar value per point and aren’t the best use of your points, though it may be a more convenient option for some people.

The 50,000 bonus Reward Points offer translates to around $225 worth of gift cards (based on the sample of retailers above), meaning the card is good value compared to its $80 p.a. annual fee.

What benefits does the card come with?

ANZ Rewards cardholders get exclusive entertainment and lifestyle offers, as well as a complimentary Personal Concierge service that can help you with restaurant or hotel bookings, gift ideas, travel recommendations and much more.

What could be better?

As the entry-level option in the ANZ Rewards lineup, the ANZ Rewards card has a lower earn rate and less competitive bonus points offer than the mid-tier ANZ Rewards Platinum card. While this can be expected as a tradeoff for the lower annual fee, it’s worth considering whether the ANZ Rewards Platinum may be a better value option.

Summary

If you’re looking for a basic bonus Reward Points credit card with a lower annual fee, the ANZ Rewards credit card is a great entry-level option. If you’re on the fence between this card and its big brother ANZ Rewards Platinum, it may worth considering whether the latter’s 100,000 bonus Reward Points, higher earn rate and complimentary insurances when shopping and travelling are better value for only a slightly higher annual fee.
